Is there a phone number I can call or text?
- Yes, feel free to call or text Kobie on 0402997247 any day - even weekends are no problems, she is happy to help after hours too if you don't get a chance to to call during business hours. Please just be aware that from April 2023-January 2024 Kobie and Vaughn are helping out on a farm up near Emerald QLD, and reception is a bit patchy. If Kobie misses your call please send a text through with your name your enquiry and she will call you back as soon as she can. Email is the best form of contact (and it is easier to keep track of everything too), but we do understand sometimes a phone call or a text is so much easier!
What is the refund process?
1. Before you have received the item:
- If you have changed your mind before your item has been shipped to you or booked in with the courier, please get in contact with us ASAP to advise you would like a refund. Just email [email protected] with your name, order number and the product you would like a refund on. We will refund the amount back to the original card you purchased the item with. Please note we are unable to refund the transaction/credit card fees or the shipping cost.
2. After you have received the item:
- If you aren't happy with your order and decide you would like a refund, you have 30 days from date of purchase to return the item/s. Please email us at [email protected] to begin the process. The item/s must be unused, in brand new condition and in original packaging. Please note that we can only refund the cost of the item and are unable to refund shipping costs or transaction/credit card fees. You will be required to organise and pay for shipping to return your items. We recommend using a shipping service that offers tracking of the goods back to our depot.
3. Refund timeframe:
- Please allow 5-10 business days for the refund to reach your bank account.
Can you ship internationally?
- Yes, we can ship any of our items internationally. Some are really expensive to ship and others are reasonably priced (depending on size and weight). We are gradually building up international shipping rates for some of our smaller items. Please note you will be required to pay any of the import taxes your country applies to imported goods. Please email us for an international shipping quote at [email protected]
I want to order a couple of products but they all show individual shipping rates in the checkout?
As our manufacturers/suppliers are located in different parts of Australia, you may be required to pay individual shipping for each item. Contact us at [email protected] if you would like to see if your shipping can be consolidated. Make sure you include what you would like to order :)
Can I pay by bank transfer/invoice?
Of course! If you would prefer us to email you an invoice instead, that is absolutely no problem. Depending on what item/s you wish to order, bank transferring via an invoice will work out cheaper than any other method of payment offered, as there are no transaction fees.
Can I pay via PayPal?
We recommend PayPal for any international customers for currency conversion purposes. If you prefer PayPal that is no worries at all! Email us at [email protected] with your order requirements, your name, shipping/billing address and your mobile number, and we will email you an invoice with PayPal payment instructions.
Why didn't I receive an order confirmation via email after placing my order?
This has happened on a couple of occasions, and is due to some customers not entering their email address correctly at the checkout. If this has happened to you please send us an email at [email protected] and we will forward through your order details.
TROOPY SHELVES FAQs
The shelf I want is not in stock, what are my options?
- If the shelf you want is not currently in stock, feel free to email us at [email protected]. We will get back in contact with lead times. Currently we recommend you allow 4-6 weeks.
What's the pick up address if I live in Sydney?
U1/20 Mayfair Close, Morisset, NSW (Thorburns new showroom)
Is fitting offered?
- Currently Thorburns do not offer fitting. If you need assistance, you can always approach your local panel shop who should have the tools and equipment to fit your shelf. Watch our fitting video on the Fitting Instructions page.
Am I able to get a bare/non-powder coated shelf?
- Yes, although we do prefer to powder coat them to 'finish' them. Bare aluminium shelves are best suited to customers who want to DIY paint, polish, or who are wanting our shelves for work purposes - where they are going to get scratched to hell anyway. The aluminium gets scratched and scored during the fabrication process. Outer corners and edges of the shelves are sanded/ground and will show buff/sand marks. These scratches are invisible once the shelf if power coated, hence why we prefer to paint them for you.
Can you do custom colours?
- We were offering Sandy Taupe and Black as alternative colour options, but as of December 2022 we have gone back to only offering White or Bare Alu only. We have had extensive issues with local Powder Coaters, resulting in some of our customers waiting way longer than advised (8-12 weeks instead of 4-8 weeks) for a Black or Sandy Taupe shelf, and this was consistently occuring. Unfortunately due to this, we have given up on offering such an extensive colour range and have gone back to basics to ensure our customers recieve their orders in the advised timeframe. We do have some Black and Sandy Taupe stock left from our last batch. Feel free to get in contact with us at [email protected] to see what we have left. If you are wanting a custom colour, feel free to order one of our Bare Aluminium shelves. You can then take it to your local powder coater and have them colour match to your vehicle OR you can paint it yourself.
I have sideways-facing bench seats that would be positioned directly under a full length shelf. Would there be any headroom for passengers?
- Generally, no. You can test headroom by measuring 200mm from your roof, and 300mm from the side wall above the windows. We don't recommend anyone sitting underneath them during tavel (especially on bumpy roads).
If I have any issues with my shelf, do I contact you guys or Thorburns?
- We handle all orders and customer enquiries, so if you have any issues or enquiries please contact Kobie on 0402997247 or email us at [email protected] and we will sort it out on your behalf.
I'm not happy with my shelf, can I get a refund?

Can I fit a Travel Buddy oven in my shelf?
- It is definitely possible and has been done before (see Grant's Troopy below), however is best done with the aid of a spacer kit to give the oven more room. As you can see, his shelf sits quite low due to this. You are probably better off mounting the oven underneath the shelf with a mounting kit like this one.
Are any of your shelves ambidextrous?
- Our Front Half shelves are completely ambidextrous and easily fit all 70 Series Troopies with no dramas. All other models are specifically Driver or Passenger side.
Are the shelves suitable for pop-top or hightop Troopies?
- Unfortunately we havent had the pleasure of inspecting a pop-top or hightop Troopy to see if we can manufacture a fitting kit to suit.
What if I have customised my roof with fancy tongue and groove or wooden slats?
- If your roof has been customised and you're not sure if one of our shelves will suit, the deciding factor will be if your Troopy's roof cross beams/supports are still accessible. If they aren't, it is likely a shelf will not be compatible. If they are accessible, we recommend purchasing the V8 shelf version.
I have a 40 series Troopy, would any of your shelves suit?
- At this stage we don't have a fitting kit to suit a 40 series.
I have a cargo barrier in the middle of my Troopy, will a half length (front or rear) shelf still fit?
- This is a tricky question as it does depend on whether or not you can manipulate your cargo barrier forwards or backwards at all. We have successfully re-jigged Big Scotty's cargo barrier (he had no seats in the back section) to fit a rear set of half length shelves. Feel free to send us some photos via email and we will see how we can help.
I have an internal roll cage, would I still be able to fit a shelf?
- We have had one customer successfully modify his shelf to fit around his roll cage. We will probably need photos to do our best to confirm this. You will need the tools and the know-how to modify your shelf to suit. Being 3mm aluminium, they are easy to drill/cut into.

Where can I pick up from?

Rear bars
What is the lead time on a Rear Bar if the website is out of stock?
- Approx 4 weeks, although we are happy to take your details as they sell out quite fast.
Can I get a Rear Bar shipped to me? If so, how much?
- Yes, but it needs to be a commercial address, alternatively we can ship it to the closest TNT/TOLL depot to you which is normally the most cost effective option. Please email us for a shipping quote [email protected].
Can I get it colour coded to my vehicle? If so, how much?
- Yes but it still needs to be powder coated first. We then 2 pac over the top for the best finish, it is currently $595 extra.
Do you do custom rear bars for other vehicles?
- We have a growing range but do not do custom work.
Can you customise my Rear Bar or is the design standard?
- The design is fixed.
How much does installation cost?
- Installation at our Morriset or Gladesville locations is $595.
Do your Rear Bar arms suit other rear bars?
- No, they are specifically designed to suit the Thorburn's Rear bar.
Water Tanks
Do you do custom Water Tanks for other vehicles?
- No. They specifically fit Landcruiser Troopcarriers.
What sort of 12v pump is supplied?
- It's a handy 3.8L per min pump.
How much does installation cost?
- Installation for the Tank itself is $105. Plumping can be included at an extra cost to an APW vent only. Contact us for a fitting quote [email protected].
Does your water tank fit with a Cruiser Company or Kaymar Rear Bar?
- It fits without any modification to a Cruiser Company Rear Bar. If you have a Kaymar please reach out to us at [email protected]. There are some models that we can modify to fit.
How long will 40L last one person?
- For drinking water it can last 2 weeks, if combined with showers most likely maximum a week. It really depends how much you use as everyone is different!
Gull Wings
Can you do custom Gull Wings for other vehicles?
- No at this stage we do them for Troopcarriers only.
How much does installation cost?
- $295 per gull wing at our Gladesville or Morisset location.

DUSTY DECALS FAQs
Is installation of decals offered?
- The decal kits are made for DIY installation, they are surprisingly easy to apply and need no skill to apply correctly. We supply, you apply!
Will I need to cut the decals when applying?
- The decals are designed and cut already to perfectly fit each section of the vehicle. There may be slight overhang and door jams that can be trimmed with a stanley knife.
What else do I need to apply the decals?
- Masking tape is recommended to align the decal before application, and to help as you unpeel the paper backing. A stanley knife to trim the excess. A spray bottle with water and a drop of dishwashing liquid to slightly wet the decal location to assist in application.
Do you have a video to assist in application?
- Yes, you can watch how easy it is to apply here;

What is included in my decal set purchase?
- You will receive the decal set ready to apply, a plastic applicator and a small Dusty Decal sticker to put on your rear window, or tool box, etc.
Do I need to specify if I have a snorkel?
- All sets will include two options; a small section before a snorkel and also a longer section if you didn’t have a snorkel. This only applies to 75/78 series (old shape) troopcarriers.
Why do the decals stop before the Landcruiser badge?
- This is on purpose so there is no need to remove this badge to apply.
How do I remove my badges on my VDJ v8 troopcarrer to install the decal?
- You will need to open your door card from the inside by unscrewing your handles (inside), removing the door card, unpeeling the plastic sheeting (waterproofing). Your badges are held on by special pins, once removed, apply decal and poke holes in decals and reinstall your badges.
If I have the ute style mirrors or Ocam Mirrors, how do I apply the decals?
- You will need to remove the mirrors, and apply the decal. Once the decal is applied, simply poke holes in the decal where the mirror bolts go and reinstall the mirrors.
How long will the decals last on my vehicle?
- The decals are made of high quality vinyl, which is topped with a clear lamination to ensure longevity. We would expect 5+ years. At our price point, we are sure you would want to change it more often.
Will the decals ruin my vehicle's paint?
- No, unless you’ve recently done a respray (recommend applying at least a month after a respray) or your paint job has not been prepared correctly (if resprayed at some point). Apply decals at your own risk, this is automotive decal material but we can't ensure your paint quality is up to scratch.
If I want to remove the decals, how do I go about it?
- Super easy, the best and easiest way to remove the decal will be to apply heat to the surface, using a hair dryer or heat gun. This will loosen the glue’s grip and make it so you can easier peel the vinyl decal from your vehicle. If it leaves glue residue, which it may, you can use a glue remover.
I have a newer Troopcarrier (VDJ) not 75 series, do you have a decal kit?
- We sure do!
Are the decals only for white Troopcarriers?
- They are for both white and sandy taupe troopcarriers.
I have a 78 series Troopcarrier (coil front and 75 series shape), will the 75 series decals fit my vehicle?
- Yes they will.

4x4 Snorkel Covers FAQs
Q: Will Air Flow Be An Issue With Your Snorkel Grilles?
This is a common question we get, although there are many factors at play, this is the simplest explanation:
"Our snorkel grilles intake size is bigger than the intake size of the snorkel pipe that the snorkel head is attached to.
The intake area of the most common style 3 ½ inch snorkel pipes is 62cm2 While the grille on the snorkel head has 130cm2 of intake area. This means that the available airflow from the standard snorkel head is more than double what can be sucked in by the snorkel pipe.
Our designs take this into account, and we make even our largest designs with 50% (65cm2) of the intake space remaining on the grille, which is still much more than what the snorkel pipe uses. This reasoning (with different intake values) also transfers to the larger safari Armax/AirMax and Toyota Factory Snorkels we make designs for.
We have put this theory into practice when testing on Vehicles, with no ill effects experienced. All our happy customers around Australia and the world (Some with Impressively Modified 4wds) have enjoyed our quality products without issue."
Q: I am not sure if your snorkel Grilles will fit my snorkel head?
Any snorkel head with 2 side mount screws that looks like this:
Will fit our standard designs, keep in mind there are many different clones and brands of this air ram (almost all accessories companies have used it at some stage, Safari, ARB, TJM, Dobinsons etc and they are all identical dimensions of 150mm wide and 110mm tall). the key take away is that the snorkel head looks like this one and has 2 side screws attaching the grille, simply unscrew your existing grille and replace it with your new 4x4SnorkelCovers design when it arrives. (Please note: that there are Safari Armax snorkels that look like this but have a 170mm wide grille, just check yours and select the correct design option on our website).
Q: My Snorkel head looks like that but it doesn't have side screws?
If your snorkel head looks like this:
Don't Worry! Many suppliers of safari snorkels sell their snorkel kits with a fully molded design without the side screws (as pictured above), some even sell them interchangeably which can be confusing. This isn't a big issue however as we have designs to suit! Simply select the 'Clip on' option instead of the 'Screw on' option.
Q: My Snorkel Head on my Land Cruiser looks squarer than the design you have?
Yes that is true there are some snorkels typically on Patrols, Navaras and Landcruisers that have a squarer top. if your snorkel head looks like this one:
Our Designs will Fit, they mount on exactly the same way :) so dont worry if the pictured designs aren't mounted to one of these, as they have the same dimensions as the normal screw in designs!
Q: Do you make Staino (stainless steel snorkel) Designs?
Yes, there is more of a design process involved however, so please send an email to Tom - [email protected]

Troopy Shelves
Fitting Instructions
From August 2021, the shelves will be supplied with a fixing kit for installation with Rivet Nut Serts. You will need a Rivet Nut Gun to Install the Rivet Nuts in your Troopy's bodywork.
The cheapest Rivet Nut gun/kit we have found is sold at Supercheap Auto. Click here to check it out. They are a handy little investment.
Please note: If you still need to use self-tapping screws, you will need a right angle drill bit to secure the roof mounting points.

Where to buy ratchet straps??
Bunnings or any automotive store have a wide range of options. We found the Syneco 2 Pack from Bunnings were of an appropriate length.
It is imperative you use a ratchet strap and not a fasty/cam strap to ensure the safety of other road users. Buy quality straps that are more likely to withstand outdoor use.

Sophie Fletcher Designs Fitting Instructions
Unless you are a lord at putting big stickers on, expect some bubbles… easy fix though.
Pin prick the bubble and push the air out! All products sent out come with instructions to follow.
WET APPLICATION: recommended for car, window and XL stickers
DRY APPLICATION: recommended for small-large stickers

The Troopy Trio Maxtrax Table Fitting Instructions
- Map out where you want to position the maxtrax table onto your vehicle (consider different flares).
- When you're happy with where you want to place the maxtrax table onto your vehicle, place masking tape where you are going to drill your holes (we recommended 2 bolts at the top, 1 at the bottom - these holes are pre drilled on the maxtrax table) - bolts are supplied.
- Using a marker or pencil, trace a mark down the outer side and bottom of the maxtrax table while the pins on the top are still located/Maxtrax table is closed. This helps to make sure the table is square (ensuring your levels are maintained). Make sure you trace your guidelines onto the masking tape, and not the paintwork of your vehicle or van.
- Fold maxtrax table down. Line up your traced lines and mark holes onto masking tape with a marker through the predrilled holes on the maxtrax table
- Remove any inner panels on the inside of the car/van so that you can tighten up your bolts from the inside.
- Drill a 9mm hole through the marked holes. Peel masking tape off. Paint some primer where you drilled the holes (covering bare metal for rust prevention).
- Hold the table up in place and put the bolts through the holes (there is a 5mm sticky foam backing on the mounting side of the maxtrax table). Tighten bolts, ensuring to put washers provided on the inside.
- Put panels back on the inside and you legends will be ready to go!
